A group of Facebook-connected 20-somethings drop everything and step into the Oregon forest in this debut feature from former Democracy Now! Intern Matthew Lessner. An irreverent satire of today's idealistic yet Wii-addled youth, and the first Kickstarter funded Sundance premiere, this outrageous and experimental comedy, about wayward hipsters clashing over their desire to rebel and revel, channels the sociopolitical concerns of Godard's Weekend and the sex and partying concerns of Weekend at Bernie's in the same Mountain Dew-scented breath.
Matthew Lessner is an award-winning writer/director whose work has been screened at top festivals worldwide, including Sundance, SXSW, and Clermont-Ferrand. His first feature narrative, THE WOODS (2011), was hailed by The Village Voice as a "psychedelic satire of hipster back-to-nature idealism " and was the first Kickstarter funded feature to be selected by Sundance. His past work includes the absurdist DARLING DARLING, starring Michael Cera, which won Lessner the Tom Berman Most Promising Filmmaker Award at Ann Arbor Film Festival, and the social satire BY MODERN MEASURE, which was named the Best Short Film of 2008 by Hammer to Nail. Lessner's work has been featured in Wholphin DVD Magazine, The Journal of Short Film, Canal + and PBS. He has also directed a number of acclaimed music videos. Lessner was recently awarded a San Francisco Film Society and Kenneth Rainin Foundation Filmmaking Grant for a new feature film tentatively titled THE NEW NORMAL."
