Motorbike Midwife tracks the Herculean efforts of a fearless nurse, Linda Mba as she rides a motorbike across remote parts of Ghana to save mothers' and babies' lives. With painful births come great personal joys for all, plagued by medical complications, poor facilities and dangerous roads.
Masumi Higashi has utilized her technical experience gained with Japanese media sphere from 1999 to 2009. In 2012, she received a MA in Documentary Filmmaking in London. Her documentary short film Motorbike Midwife (2012, Ghana) has been screened around the world, placing her on the list for a number of awards. Motorbike Midwife highlights the human spirit,
particularly the plight of people in the face of adversity and their strength of character as a result. At the same time, it touches on the realities of the local culture. With a deep passion about ethnographic and observational styles, Masumi continues to produce documentaries polishing her own perspectives and techniques.
