Closing night of the 5th Annual Queens World Film Festival will feature a special screening of DUKHTAR (Daughter) by Afia Nathaniel. DUKHTAR is a gripping, beautiful and touching story, straight from today's headlines, about the practice of marrying young girls (sometimes before puberty) to much older men for tribal, political and/or economic reasons. In DUKHTAR, the girl’s mother steals away with her daughter on the eve of the impending marriage, and they both go on the run.
Shot in the northern mountains of Pakistan with brilliant performances by well-known actors, DUKHTAR is fast becoming a festival favorite among those who love arthouse films and was Pakistan's 2014 official entry for the 87th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
After the screening QWFF will present the 2015 awards and honors and the evening will close with our guest vocalist Sammie Collie.
