filmmaker's note We live in a world where it is often easier to make assumptions, instead of empathizing with someone’s personal struggles. When Marri Savinar asked me to direct “I’m Just Here,” I immediately accepted. Beyond raising awareness about the experience of a person who is a transgender, directing this film allowed me to show how much one person can impact another‘s life. Sometimes, we simply need to know that someone else cares and that the pain we are experiencing is not permanent. It hurts me so deeply to think that someone else is in suffering because they don’t feel accepted by the people around them. “I’m Just Here” is about embracing what makes every individual unique. As a filmmaker, it is my job to challenge preconceived notions and help audiences see life through a different lens. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring such a powerful story to life alongside our extremely talented cast and crew. I hope to inspire other filmmakers to keep telling these types of stories and to continue raising awareness about a reality many never get the chance to understand.
