synopsis The new digital restoration of this rare documentary about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s has not been seen for 40 years. "The New Klan" takes us into rare Klan ceremonies as well as Duke's early campaigns to legitimize racism in America. This film tracks the Klan's efforts to normalize racism through community organizing around issues like busing, while fueling racial fear around economic issues. There are many parallels between what is captured in this documentary and the growing license to express racism engendered by our country's current political climate. "The New Klan" looks into our past and thereby helps us inform our future.
director Leslie Shatz lives in Brooklyn, NY and Eleanor Miller lives in Louisville, KY
