synopsis
In her thought provoking paper, Experiencing Aging, Catherine Papell, social worker extraordinaire, reflects on the process of aging, observing her own personal journey as a lens through which she focuses her unique wisdom. After a productive professional life, Dr. Papell continues to leave her mark on the hearts and psyche of everyone she teaches.Catherine Papell, MSW, DSW, Professor Emerita, or as her friends call her, Katy, was born in Michigan in 1916. After attaining two Master's degrees, she went on to receive her Doctorate in Social Welfare at Yeshiva University in 1979. With a dedication to teaching, Dr. Papell has taught many facets of social work curriculum as a Professor at Adelphi University School of Social Work. Dr. Papell and her dear friend, Dr. Buelah Rothman were founders of the Professional Journal of Social Work with Groups.A long time resident of Flushing, Queens, Katy enjoys living within a community rich in diversity. Her belief in outreach and helping others is evident in her work in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Queens.This documentary provides an intimate portrait of a remarkable human being as she encounters aging.

Snowflake Video Productions is the innovation of filmmaker Leslye Abbey. Her worldwide adventures have given her the opportunity to capture and present diverse expressions of cultural identity. Her career as a psychotherapist and Cultural Social Worker, in such places as the Oglala Sioux Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, combined with her photographic background, has granted her video camera intimate access into the human heart and spirit.
