Three different NYC women are united by surfing. AWAY is a short documentary film that looks at the the subculture of NYC surfing through the lens of these women, divulging the highs and lows of riding waves at Rockaway Beach, Queens. In the ocean, they're the same. Their goal is to be transformed by surfing. Out of the ocean their differences are revealed as we find out how this transformation affects their lives. Katrina wants to share it with her community of friends. Mary is addicted to it and keeps it with her through the ups and downs of her life. And Jee Mee wants to deepen her obsession with it by excelling and improving, ultimately learning that balance is the key.
