synopsis Ravi & Jane is a heart warming story of two class mates who strike up a budding friendship. A shy 10 year old, Ravi, has just moved to Australia from his native land of Sri Lanka. On his first day in a new school, he is befriended by Jane. Whilst their lives are worlds apart the two are inseparable until events beyond their control attempt to divide them.
director Stuart O'Rourke began his career in London in 1999 as a freelancer in the television industry. Starting as a Videotape Operator, he then went on to work as a Production Assistant on the ITV drama series POIROT (2 x 2hr) for Carnival Films.
Returning to Sydney in 2002, he worked for 4 years at Crackerjack Productions in the role of Offline Editor, working on various TV shows including THE GREAT FOOTY DEBATES (ESPN) and three seasons of sketch comedy series COMEDY INC (over 36hrs of TV) for Channel 9.
As an independent he has filmed and directed a five-part travel series INSIDE INDIA and, more recently, a 1-hour documentary about the heavy metal music culture in Finland, THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT METAL, which won the 2009 Mexico International Film Festival Silver Palm Award for Outstanding Achievement.
30 minute documentary IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE (set in outback NSW) screened on German TV network ZFneo in 2010 for which Stuart was credited as Director of Photography.
In 2012 short film JULIAN, directed by Matthew Moore and shot by Stuart, won the prestiguous Crystal Bear award for Best Short Film at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale). JULIAN has also been awarded the 2013 AACTA Award for Best Short Film, the Jury Prize at Flickerfest and Best Short Film at Tokyo Kinder Film Festival.
Short film RAVI & JANE, written and directed by Stuart, is entering the festival circuit in mid 2013.
Stuart has also produced video content for many well known international companies and brands.
Stuart holds a BA in Television Production from Charles Sturt University (1997) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the University of Technology, Sydney (2007).
