synopsis Vibraphonist Jason Marsalis of the New Orleans jazz family, German bass player Christian Fabian, Native Alaskan drummer Ed Littlefield, and Filipino-American pianist Reuel Lubag are THE NATIVE JAZZ QUARTET, a group that makes folk melodies from Alaska to Louisiana swing hard. In March 2013, the four jazzmen met up in New York to audition for the American Music Abroad Program. AMBASSADORS stays with them through a long night and a suspenseful morning as they work on making their dream come true: Follow in the footsteps of jazz giants like Dizzy Gillespie and travel the world as Music Ambassadors for the US.
director Sascha Just: Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, where I still have strong roots, I live in my personal epicenter New York. Currently, I am working on a documentary, The Beautiful City, a music-driven portrait of New Orleans composed of three artists' journeys into the city's past: drummer/vibraphonist Jason Marsalis, Mardi Gras Indian Chief Darryl Montana, and theater artist Lisa D'Amour. On the journalistic side of my life, I am the Managing Editor of the New York based theater journal Western European Stages, published at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, and a regular columnist for the Berlin film journal KinoKarate. I write about theater for publications such as Nachtkritik and Theater Heute, and event blogs for The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center.
