The documentary examines the cases of three individuals who were wrongfully incarcerated for murder and sheds light on weaknesses in the US justice system. With the help of James McCloskey and his organization, Centurion Ministries, these convictions were ultimately overturned. Employing innovative painted animation, ‚"Truth Has Fallen" investigates why these three individuals were wrongfully convicted and suggests reforms to the United States justice system that could help to reduce the rate of wrongful convictions.
Sheila M. Sofian creates films that investigate social issues utilizing a unique hybrid of animation and documentary. Sheila has produced six independent animated films. She has received grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundationís Media Arts Award, the Roy W. Dean Film Grant, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Women in Film Foundation and the Pew Fellowships in the Arts, as well as a residency at the MacDowell Colony. Her award-winning films have been shown at numerous international and domestic film festivals, and are distributed educationally and in home video markets. Ms. Sofian lectures internationally on the emerging genre of documentary animation. She holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Film Animation and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in Experimental Animation. Sheila is currently a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California.
