synopsis ROXANNE is the story of a numb and lonely transgender sex worker, who is stuck in a routine of isolation and repetition. Her life is changed when she meets the precocious 11 year old, Lily, who has been abandoned by her mother. Roxanne is forced to act and take the girl in, when she sees her in a dangerous situation. By allowing the girl into her home, the pair being to form a close bond and Roxanne must allow herself to care for another person for the first time.
director Paul Frankl is a London based writer and director, who also works as a freelance video editor for clients including Chanel, adidas, VICE, i-D Magazine and the Tate Britain. His last short film, ROXANNE, was shot on 35mm on location in Soho, London and has played at over 30 international festivals, won two awards and been made a Vimeo staff pick, getting over 90,000 views online. It was funded in part by Absolut Vodka after he reached out to them on Twitter, and through a successful Kickstarter campaign. He is currently developing the feature version of ROXANNE with producers Gavin Humphries and Alex Thiele. He took part in the EIFF Connections 2016 scheme to develop the script. In 2012 Paul was selected as one of 5 winners from 700 international applicants for Bombay Sapphire's Imagination Series competition. The film was adapted and directed by Henry Mason and premiered at Tribeca 2013. Paul attended Queen Mary, University of London achieving a 1st class Bachelors degree in Comparative Literature and Film Studies. Here he received an Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.
