synopsis ROXANNE is the story of a numb and lonely transgender sex worker, who is stuck in a routine of isolation and repetition. Her life is changed when she meets the precocious 11 year old, Lily, who has been abandoned by her mother. Roxanne is forced to act and take the girl in, when she sees her in a dangerous situation. By allowing the girl into her home, the pair being to form a close bond and Roxanne must allow herself to care for another person for the first time.
director Paul Frankl is a freelance writer and director. He is based in London.
In 2014 he wrote and directed his 14 minute short film, ROXANNE which he also co-produced. The budget was in part supplied by Absolut Vodka, and part funded by Kickstarter. It was shot on 35mm film.
He is leading a Guardian Masterclass on film funding in December 2014.
In 2013 he was a mentor on the National Theatre's short filmmaking competition for Tori Amos's The Light Princess, and took part in the BFI London Film Festival's Think, Shoot, Distribute talent scheme.
In 2012 Paul was selected as one of 5 winners from 700 international applicants for Bombay Sapphire's Imagination Series competition and his script was produced for £40,000. The film premiered at Tribeca 2013.
He has also directed music videos for Mt. Wolf, (official selection Aesthetica Film Festival), and internationally acclaimed Bright Light Bright Light, who has toured with the likes of Scissor Sisters and Elton John.
Paul attended Queen Mary, University of London achieving a 1st class Bachelors degree in Comparative Literature and Film Studies. Here he received an Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.
