synopsis
Two orphaned teenage brothers leave their remote mountain village behind to seek their fortune in two separate major cities. Meanwhile, their young neighbors anxiously await the return of their father, a migrant worker who left the village a year ago. This is the story of four boys from the Chinese countryside, their hopes and dreams, and the challenges they face.
director
Tianlin Xu is a Chinese filmmaker based in Germany, with an academic background in German studies and Journalism. Before she found her passion for filmmaking, she worked as a coordinator for art and culture projects in Beijing, a position which enabled her to be involved in the organization of a documentary film festival as well as the production of a feature film. These worthy experiences sparked her interest in exploring narrative documentary with an high level of an own aesthetic style. Since 2009 she has produced several short documentaries and multimedia stories. "Coming and Going" is her feature-length directorial debut.
