synopsis BIG VOICE chronicles a year in the life of a determined public high school choir director who overcomes challenges to push his students to achieve "one big voice". Despite budget cuts that endanger arts programs everywhere, this committed choir teacher strives to create a vibrant vocal music program that successfully ignites in his students a passion for music, a sense of belonging, and the value of working hard to achieve their dreams as they prepare to step into adulthood.
director Varda Bar-Kar is an award-winning filmmaker committed to creating meaningful, engaging and activating content for multiple
platforms including theatrical, broadcast and the web. Varda brings an authentic voice and a commitment to artistry to everything
she does. She specializes in creating cause driven content for global campaigns. Her viral videos have drawn millions of views and
her work has garnered multiple awards including YouTube's Most Innovative Non-profit Video Award for her short film "What Kind
Of Planet Are We On," a Silver Telly Award for her PSA "Journey to Safety" and NFMLA's On Location Project Grand Prize & Audience
Choice Award for her branded short "Ode To Los Angeles".
Following a global search for cutting edge directors, SHOOT magazine selected Varda to be featured in their prestigious New
Director's Showcase.
Varda recently completed the award winning feature documentary BIG VOICE about a demanding high school choir director and his
students struggling to achieve artistic excellence against all odds. In addition to shedding light on the value of Arts Education, BIG
VOICE is full of meaningful life lessons. Currently, Varda is developing the scripted feature "Where A Lawn Ought To Be" co-written
by Taylor Negron.
Varda is a Board Member of New Filmmakers/LA.
