Ben, a native fisherman on Long Island New York, fishes for the large striped bass. Jorge, a Latino immigrant catches the smaller fish known as ‘porgies’. What starts out as a beautiful day on the beach turns into a skirmish over territory, and finally erupts in an unforgettable manner.
Writer-director Thomas Barnes' short narrative films have screened internationally at dozens of top film festivals worldwide from Clermont Ferrand to San Francisco to Woodstock. His film ‘Pork Chop' (2001) has just been selected for the best ever ‘food films' in the 10 year anniversary edition of the 2016 NY Food Film fest.
His latest short is ‘Porgies & Bass' which debuted in July 2016 at the 25th Woods Hole FF and has been invited to play at Woodstock FF and Big Apple NY in late 2016. The film recently won BEST SHORT FILM at Coney Island FF.
Thomas made a name as a music video director for such Asian icons Faye Wong and Andy Lau, and international artists like Keke Palmer & Rod Stewart. He has also directed numerous TV commercials for brands like Coke and M&M.
Now based in NYC, he teaches directing craft at the New York Film Academy alongside his film projects.
Thomas is originally from Hong Kong, of mixed Anglo-Chinese heritage.
